Office Environments / Research / Science

MOMA Therapeutics is a biotech company whose drive is to understand harmful enzyme “machines” that govern diverse processes within cells. MOMA wanted to convey a science-centered sense of urgency, based on reliance with each other, with a willingness to “fail fast”, encouraging risk-taking, trying new ideas, adapting what works and abandoning what doesn’t. Toward the reception area, the company logo, an abstraction of gears in motion, is mimicked in the arrangement of light fixtures above a circular café bar. The science-centered focus is immediately apparent from the elevator lobby, where a large wall of glass lends a view to the open laboratory and the researchers at work. Collaboration is key to their model of research. The lab space has maximum flexibility and openness. The workplace has a rich combination of open workstations, small huddle rooms, medium conference rooms, and a more formal board room. But the focus is on the open collaboration areas including an “all-hands” café that provides AV technology for over 100 participants, allows for daily lunches, and provides an alternative workspace for the teams.
